In Home Massage Therapy: What to Expect For Your First Session

When you book a mobile massage therapy session, the convenience of having a professional come to your home means you can enjoy a relaxing experience in your own space. Here's what you can expect when the therapist arrives and sets up:

Before the Appointment

  • Confirmation Call/Text: Your therapist will usually contact you to confirm the appointment time and ensure they have the correct address. This is also a good time to discuss any specific needs or preferences you might have.

Arrival

  • Punctuality: Your therapist will arrive on time, carrying all the necessary equipment, including a massage table and any additional tools needed for the session.

  • Introduction: They will introduce themselves, give you a brief rundown of what to expect, and answer any initial questions you might have. Then you will be handed a two sided health intake form to complete while setting up.

Setting Up

  • Space Requirements: The therapist will need a clear space about 7’x10’ feet to set up the massage table. This can be in a living room, bedroom, or any area where you feel comfortable (your garage will work in a pinch).

  • Privacy and Comfort: They'll help you decide on the best spot for the massage, ensuring it's a quiet and private area. It’s helpful if you can dim the lights and perhaps play some soft music, but this is entirely optional.

  • Sanitization: The therapist will sanitize their hands and the massage table before setting up. They might also ask you if they can wash their hands in your bathroom before beginning the session.

During the Session

  • Consultation: Before starting, the therapist will ask about any specific areas of concern, health issues, or preferences for pressure and technique.

  • Clothing: You will be fully clothed for this session, comfortable clothing that lets your body move freely is preferred. Shorts or yoga pants and a T-shirt are a great option.

  • Relaxation: Once you’re ready, the therapist will begin the massage. They’ll check in occasionally to ensure the pressure is right and you’re comfortable.

  • Focus Areas: The session will focus on your needs and specific injuries, you can expect multiple stretching techniques and . Feel free to communicate any adjustments you need during the massage.

After the Session

  • Closure: The therapist will let you know when the session is ending and give you a moment to bring anything up that may have come to your attention during the session.

  • Feedback: They’ll ask for feedback about the session and any specific areas that may need more attention in future appointments.

  • Clean Up: The therapist will pack up their equipment and leave your space as they found it.

Payment and Rescheduling

  • Payment: You can discuss payment options beforehand. Most therapists accept cash, credit cards, or electronic payments. Tipping is appreciated but optional.

  • Future Appointments: If you’re interested in scheduling another session, you can do so at the end of your appointment or contact them later.

Post-Massage Care

  • Hydration: It’s a good idea to drink plenty of water after your massage.

  • Relaxation: Take it easy for the rest of the day to maximize the benefits of your massage.
